Dream On...

The older I get the harder it is to find songs that relate to my life experiences. It's not like I'm 18 and falling in love. Or even 18 and having my heart broken. I'm a mom with a kid, figuring out how to stay connected to That Which Is Bigger. Pop music can be very limited, but that makes it that much more touching when I find a song I can relate to, like Aerosmith's Dream On, which I find I relate to more and more as the years go by:

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face gettin' clearer.

The past is gone;

It went by like dusk to dawn.

Isn't that the way?
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

I know what nobody knows -

Where it comes and where it goes.

I know its everybody's sin -

You got to lose to know how to win.

Half my life is in book's written pages;
Live and learn from fools and from sages.

You know its true -

All the things come back to you.

Sing with me, sing for the years

Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears

Sing with me, if its just for today

Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away

(x2)

Dream on, dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true

Dream on, dream on

Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on...

Sing with me, sing for the years

Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears

Sing with me, if its just for today

Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away.

What songs relate to your story now? What songs do you listen to when you want to connect with a story that is no longer current in your life? (like The Wall by Pink Floyd for the depressed teenager that I was...)

I've been listening to Joan Armetrating's new CD lately. Singing secular songs for the churches where we'll pray, pray, pray. Had to give up Tracy Chapman's I've done so many things wrong I don't know if I can do right.

I've been in a Loreena McKennitt phase for a while--I use her for ecstatic dancing. I close my eyes and just move...

I'm so glad you posted about this and brought my attention to it. I have just been given a whole stack of new music from a friend. I really just chose the albums based on the sound of them because I didn't listen to each one for very long.
Your post will bring my attention to listening to the words more and finding inspiration and support from them.
Thanks...

I am glad you have a song that you can relate to.
